StratGPT is our investigation into the exciting/terrifying/wonderful world of Artificial Intelligence. It’s the first custom GPT designed to assist account planners and brand strategists. It is not meant to replace anyone, but it can be a helpful resource when time is tight and workload is heavy. StratGPT itself is free – but it requires a ChatGPT Plus subscription. If you have any doubts, check the FAQ further below.

Not sure where to start? Here are some examples of prompts to consider:

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

How is StratGPT different from simply using the standard ChatGPT?
StratGPT is a ChatGPT “build”. Meaning: it does everything ChatGPT does and MORE. I’ve taught StratGP many things that ChatGPT has NOT been taught before – such as concepts specific to the brand strategy discipline, references, frameworks, and ways of thinking. Why? Well, ChatGPT sources from an ocean of information. Which brought it closer to the average and made its outcomes pretty basic/standard/cliche. For a brand strategist, that’s useless. But the potential for ChatGPT to do a better job is there – it can THINK. So when you create a custom build and give it the right directions, it starts doing a much better job.

How did you do that?
By investing time. It’s like teaching, mostly. There’s the process of selecting the right material, uploading it, and then ensuring it learned how to interpret it correctly. That’s tricky, unstructured, somewhat painful even. There’s a lot of trial and error, refining, and letting it learn from its mistakes. It’s a fascinating process.

Is it free?
No. StratGPT is only available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers. OpenAI charges $20 a month for the individual plan. That gives you faster/priority access to their tools, access to all the thousands of custom ChatGPT builds (such as StratGPT), and the ability to create your custom ChatGPTs, too – which I strongly suggest you try.

How much did it cost to build it?
The most significant cost was, by far, my time. In terms of direct cash, though, it costs me the $20 monthly subscription and all the indirect expenses with broadband connection, etc. But the real question should be about opportunity costs. It just felt to me that it had to be done; it had to be done now, and I was intrigued enough to do it myself.

Are you making money?
Zero. I don’t take any cut from it. It has all been a labor of love. And although OpenAI said they might start to distribute some money to the most popular custom ChatGPT creators in some time, I strongly doubt a niche application like StratGPT will ever be topping their rankings.
